Applied Math Camp
SCHEDULE
Generally, the camps are Monday through Friday, half-day for three hours. Typical 8:30-11:30 or 9:00-12:00
8:30-8:40- Independent activity while campers arrive- Create your deck of cards (o-10 or 20 depending on the age) or work on a number puzzle.
8:40-9:00- Group Discussion of the day’s plans and recipe conversions.
Group explores fractional parts of whole concepts needed for the day’s recipe and in pairs begin working on converting the recipe for specific numbers of servings.
9:00-9:30 Game Time Learn and play a new card, board, or sidewalk game while partners are preparing the day’s snack.
Each group helps make the snack. Sometimes they agree to cook alternating days and sometimes they split the recipe and each small group helps make a different part of the snack.
9:30-9:50 Snack Break
Usually, outside under the shade trees and outside games, like Twister, Pin the Equation on the sum/difference/product/quotient, Buckets, Kid-created games, etc.
9:50-10:50 Project Time Work on the project, clean up, organize materials for the next day-know where to start next time.
10:50-11:20 Skill/Strategy Development Activity
Introduce a new game, number puzzle, an investigation, like how many different fabrics do we need if we want to make unique lined bags for the entire grade
11:20-11:30 Reflect on the day’s work and Set space for next day
11:30-11:35 Pick up and share the days experiences with parents
